RAP & Clean Core Bootcamp

The deep version: five immersive days covering the full transition — Clean Core rules, HANA-native data modeling with CDS and AMDP, the complete RAP development model with EML and draft handling, released-API extensibility, and ATC-driven custom-code migration — closing with a capstone each developer builds and defends.
Duration

5 days

Cohort

Up to 12 developers; larger groups split into parallel cohorts.

Delivery

On-site, virtual or hybrid

Investment

from $15,000 · fixed scope + travel at cost

Who it's for

ABAP teams committed to S/4HANA who want developers productive on the new stack at the end of the week, not just informed about it.

Format

Immersive instructor-led bootcamp, lab-heavy

Pick this one when…

You can invest one focused week and need developers who can actually ship on the new stack at the end of it.

Outcomes

What the team can do afterwards

  • Each developer designs and builds a complete RAP business object — data model, behavior, service exposure
  • CDS and AMDP used deliberately: code pushdown where it pays, with the performance evidence
  • Extensibility decisions made the Clean Core way: released APIs, BAdIs and extension points instead of modifications
  • A team-level ATC migration playbook: variants, baseline, worst-first remediation order
  • Capstone projects reviewed in front of the team — code review as a teaching instrument
Curriculum

The 5 days, day by day

Module codes (M01–M14, B01–B03) reference the Clean Core Academy curriculum — the same backbone available to the team digitally before and after the engagement.

Day 1

Clean Core foundations & the HANA mindset

M01 M02
  • The 3-tier extensibility model and release contracts (C0–C3), worked through real decisions
  • Restricted ABAP: what's gone, what replaces it, how to look it up instead of guessing
  • Set-based thinking and code pushdown — rewiring loop-and-read instincts
  • Lab: spot-the-violation drills + readiness self-audit as the week's baseline
Day 2

Modern ABAP & performance on HANA

M03 M07 M10
  • Modern language: inline declarations, constructor expressions, clean OOP, immutability
  • Performance: join strategy, N+1 prevention, buffer semantics, table design on HANA
  • The gotchas catalog: the traps that pass review and fail in production
  • Lab: timed refactoring drills with live abaplint checks and before/after comparisons
Day 3

CDS, AMDP & code pushdown — the data day

M06 M07
  • CDS views in depth: composition, parameters, annotations, access control
  • AMDP (logic run inside the database): when it's the right tool and when it isn't
  • Analytics-ready modeling: associations, virtual elements, OData exposure
  • Lab: model a real reporting requirement as a CDS stack and measure the pushdown win
Day 4

RAP end-to-end — the application day

M04 M05
  • The RAP model: managed vs. unmanaged, behavior definitions, EML (the API for create/update/delete)
  • Draft handling, determinations, validations and actions — where business logic lives now
  • Service binding and a Fiori Elements preview: from BO to working UI without a UI project
  • Released APIs & extensibility: BAdIs and extension points instead of modifications
  • Lab: build a managed RAP business object end-to-end, individually, with coaching
Day 5

ATC migration, capstone & the road ahead

M08 M13 M14
  • ATC for custom-code migration: ABAP_CLOUD_DEVELOPMENT_DEFAULT, baselining, exemption discipline
  • A migration playbook for your backlog: build vs. retire vs. replace, worst-first
  • Capstone: each developer completes and presents a small clean-core RAP app
  • Code review as a teaching instrument — reviewing capstones together, kindly and precisely
  • Closing: skills matrix re-check against day 1, per-developer next steps, leadership readout
